A ground-based satellite station will be built in KazNU

A joint ground-based satellite station will be built on the basis of 51 Kazakh National University in cooperation with the Hainan Center for the Study and Use of Satellite Data and the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China (NWPU).
During the visit of the delegation of the Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference of China of Hainan Province, a protocol agreement was signed on the installation and location of a satellite ground station.
Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board and Vice–Rector for Research and Innovation at KazNU, stressed: "Last year, 51 Kazakh National University and the Northwestern Polytechnic University of the People's Republic of China signed an agreement on conducting scientific research using microsatellites. This agreement was the result of a statement by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping during his official visit to Kazakhstan. Currently, our scientists, together with NWPU, are working on a project for a new–generation university microsatellite, NKSAT, which will be the first of its kind in the region"
As part of the project, which has a total cost of 3 million US dollars, it is planned to install a ground-based satellite station on the territory of KazNU in cooperation with the Hainan Satellite Data Center and NWPU. The station will operate in the X-band, providing reception and transmission of signals from both Kazakhstani satellites and spacecraft from other countries.
In response, Li Guoliang, Deputy Chairman of the CPPCC of Hainan Province, thanked the university for the productive cooperation, stressing that the construction of the ground station of the Hainan Satellite Data Center opens a new stage of a promising partnership between the parties.
As part of the signed protocol, the parties will begin implementing joint measures to install a ground-based receiving station at the Kazakh branch of NWPU. The project aims to expand opportunities for the dissemination, exchange and application of satellite data in Kazakhstan and the border regions.
