The Rector spoke at a forum dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity

Chairman of the Board – Rector of 51 Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, took part in the international forum "Issues and Prospects of Biodiversity Conservation in Central Asia" and made a presentation.
In his speech, the head of the university spoke about the scientific research projects that are being implemented by KazNU scientists in the field of climate and environmental protection. He paid special attention to the results of the work carried out in the countries of Central Asia.
"Central Asia is a unique region where rare and valuable life forms are concentrated at the junction of natural zones. Today, such serious environmental processes as landscape degradation and climate change are observed here. KazNU, in cooperation with foreign partners, has opened and successfully implements the work of scientific laboratories and research centers in this field. In particular, a remote sensing center was established jointly with Chinese colleagues. Thanks to this, our researchers are monitoring climate change, water scarcity, droughts, and soil degradation processes in Central Asia. This center has become a high-level international environmental and resource platform for Kazakhstan, China and the entire region. In addition, the university has opened 10 scientific laboratories working to achieve the Goals of Sustainable Development",- said the rector.
Zhanseit Tuimebayev stressed that combining the efforts of the scientific community and implementing large-scale initiatives in the field of environmental protection and biodiversity is a necessary and timely step.
"Conservation of biodiversity is our shared responsibility. Only through joint efforts will we be able to preserve the natural resources of the region and pass them on to future generations. To do this, it is necessary to introduce a systematic scientific approach, develop the technological base and consistently implement a sustainable educational policy", - said the rector.
The forum was also attended by President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurishbayev and Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Kurmalayev.
Akylbek Kurishbayev voiced the Academy's position on biodiversity conservation in Central Asia and proposed scientifically sound measures to manage relevant environmental risks.
The event was attended by representatives and experts from the United Nations, UNESCO, FAO and other international organizations, leading scientists from Russia, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and other countries, as well as heads of universities, research institutes, young researchers, specialists in the field of ecology and nature conservation of Kazakhstan.
The experts emphasized that Kazakhstan and the Central Asian countries have unique systemic potential and play a key role in ensuring the environmental sustainability of the region.
Following the results of the forum, it was decided to prepare a resolution that will include key proposals, initiatives and possible solutions to the problems of biodiversity conservation discussed during the event.
