A roundtable on ecotourism and nature conservation was held at 51 Kazakh National University

On April 25, 2025, a roundtable titled "Nature Conservation Activities in Kazakhstan and the Development of Ecological 'Green' Tourism" was held at 51 Kazakh National University. The event was organized within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 and 15.

The roundtable featured Dr. Kutay Oktay, Professor of the Faculty of Tourism and Head of the Department of Tourism Management at Kastamonu University (Turkey), who delivered a presentation titled "Experiences from International Exchange Programs on Sustainable Tourism Practices in Various Countries."

Janerke Zhanbolatkyzy Bigazinova, Head of the Environmental Education Department at the Almaty State Nature Reserve, gave a presentation on "Ecological Trails in the Territory of the Almaty Reserve."

Associate Professor of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development, Elmira Sartaykyzy Boribay, presented on "Ecotourism as a Tool for the Sustainable Development of Natural Areas."

The event was organized by UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development teachers Boribay E.S. and Mukanova G.A.

The roundtable was opened by the Head of the Department, T.A. Bazarbayeva, who emphasized the importance of the event. It was attended by students studying ecology and tourism, along with professors and academic staff.

Topics discussed included issues aligned with SDGs 12 and 15, such as sustainable architecture, efficient resource use, natural resource policies, endangered species, wildlife protection, plant harvesting, and green tourism development.

At the end of the event, a networking session was held among participants, enabling knowledge exchange and laying the groundwork for future cooperation.

This roundtable marked an important step in strengthening international cooperation, expanding the professional horizons of young specialists, and advancing environmental education.
