Youth and Society: A Critical View on New Age Movements

23 april, 2025

On April 22, 2025, an open lecture and seminar was held at the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of 51 Kazakh National University as part of the course “Modern Religious Movements and Cults.” The topic of the session was “New Age Movements and Cults in Modern Society.”

The seminar was conducted by Daurenbek Narul, a first-year master’s student in Islamic Studies. The lecture addressed the ideology, influence, and characteristics of New Age trends that have become increasingly widespread in today’s world amid spiritual searching and religious ambiguity.

An especially engaging part of the seminar was the interactive Quizizz quiz, used as a feedback tool. Students actively participated, testing their knowledge on the topic. The top three participants received small prizes, adding a fun and motivating aspect to the academic session.

The open lecture was held under the guidance of Candidate of Philosophical Sciences Zhanar Kantarbayeva as part of the pedagogical practice program. According to the organizers, such seminars are crucial not only for delivering academic knowledge but also for nurturing students’ critical thinking.

Held in room 116 of the Faculty of International Relations, the seminar served as a vibrant platform for dialogue and discussion. In an age of globalization and ideological fluidity, raising awareness and building a grounded worldview is more important than ever.

This event marks an important step in cultivating both the professional competencies of future Islamic scholars and the intellectual-spiritual atmosphere of the university.
