"Russian Philology and Sustainable Development is A Look into the Past and the Future"

On April 18, 2025, the Faculty of Philology and World Languages of 51 Kazakh National University hosted an educational event on the topic: "Russian Philology and Sustainable Development is A Look into the Past and the Future", dedicated to the Day of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was organized by the first-year master’s degree students majoring in "Russian Philology" Zhanna Aitzhanova and Anastasiya Blagodatskaya. The project was supervised by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Enkar Kakylbayeva.
The meeting was held in a warm, inspiring atmosphere and brought together teachers, students, and all those interested in the issues of humanitarian knowledge, sustainable development, and the role of Russian philology in the modern world.
The focus of the event was the long and rich history of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature — one of the oldest academic and educational divisions of the university. Participants were presented with a retrospective of the department: from its founders (E.S. Istrina, A.Kh. Mishchenko, Kh.Kh. Makhmudov, and others) to modern scholars who have significantly contributed to the development of linguistics, literary studies, and language teaching.
Special attention was paid to the department's contribution to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular:
- SDG 4 "Quality Education",
- SDG 16 "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions".
The event highlighted that the department:
- preserves linguistic and cultural heritage,
- fosters intercultural resilience,
- nurtures global citizens with humanistic values,
- unites students of different nationalities and cultures.
The presentation also showcased the department's modern scientific and educational projects, participation in international conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and its role in training candidates and doctors of science.
In conclusion, the speakers emphasized that the department is not only a scientific institution but also a cultural bridge connecting the past and the future, generations, languages, and nations.
The event was an important contribution to the development of academic culture, the formation of sustainable humanitarian values, and the strengthening of scientific continuity at KazNU.
