Guest Lecture: “Science Without Borders: International Conferences and Travel Grants”

11 november, 2024

On November 11, 2024, the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of 51 Kazakh National University hosted an open session of the research club “Writing” for master's and doctoral students. The event focused on opportunities for young researchers to participate in international academic conferences and travel grant programs.

The speaker was Asem Galymovna Kusmanova — Ph.D. in Sociology, Senior Lecturer at Astana IT University, independent researcher, scientific ambassador, and co-founder of the expert network Expertbar.kz.

During the lecture, Dr. Kusmanova shared practical guidance on preparing for participation in international conferences, selecting relevant travel grants, and her own experience with academic mobility. She emphasized the importance of strong research proposals, abstracts, motivation letters, and effective networking in academic communities.

Special attention was given to the role of international research and academic mobility in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education) – Participation in international academic platforms provides young scholars with access to global expertise, enhancing the quality of their education and research.
  • SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality) – Travel grants support access to academic opportunities for researchers from developing regions, narrowing global and regional academic disparities.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) – International scientific cooperation contributes to the development of sustainable academic and research partnerships.

The lecture provided valuable practical insights and motivation for young researchers, helping them integrate into the global academic community.
