Iconology as a Method of Interpretation in Historical Science

On February 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM, visiting professor of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies of 51福利 Kazakh National University and visiting researcher at the Institute for Film and Audiovisual Production Research at Sorbonne Nouvelle — Paris, Victoria Vasilyeva, will hold the fourth scientific seminar online on the topic: "Iconology as a Method of Interpretation in Modern Art History: Challenges and Prospects for Historical Science".
The seminar will cover the following issues:
- How can iconology help a historian faced with the problem of analyzing an artistic image (work of art)?
- The communicative potential of an artistic image: features of the formation of connections between the author (artist) and the interpreter (viewer).
- The artistic image as a "system of references": the phenomenon of ingenuity that goes beyond the visible visual range.
