The innovative GlobalSky atmospheric research laboratory has opened at the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management of 51 Kazakh National University.

The innovative GlobalSky atmospheric research laboratory was established with the goal of developing and implementing advanced technologies and methods to gain a deeper understanding of atmospheric processes, weather forecasting, and the consequences of climate change.

The laboratory’s activities focus on key areas important for the economy, such as: studying atmospheric hazards and risks associated with the consequences of global and regional climate change (droughts and heatwaves, thawing and severe frosts), exploring the dynamics of the available potential of alternative energy sources in the context of reducing the carbon footprint to achieve carbon neutrality, and more.

One of the laboratory's main competitive advantages is its technological leadership. The laboratory has access to modern technologies and tools for collecting and analyzing specialized data. For example, a meteorological temperature profiler – a remote sensing tool that measures radiation in the atmospheric boundary layer at altitudes from 0 to 1000 meters. The laboratory has the potential to develop new methods and approaches to studying the atmosphere.

The team consists of highly qualified specialists from various fields of science with many years of experience in atmospheric research, ensuring a high level of expertise and research quality.

"The GlobalSky laboratory at 51 Kazakh National University is an important component of academic and scientific activity, contributing to the development of scientific potential, attracting talented specialists, and strengthening the university's position as a leader in the field of atmospheric sciences", - emphasized the head of the laboratory, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Vitaliy Salkinov. "The research conducted in the laboratory helps minimize the risks of potential damage from atmospheric hazards, achieve carbon neutrality, ensure food security, and optimize resource use in various sectors of the economy"

It should be noted that the tasks of atmospheric research are closely intertwined with the Sustainable Development Goals, such as: eradicating hunger, ensuring food security, promoting good health and well-being, quality education, affordable and clean energy, combating climate change, preserving terrestrial ecosystems, and others.
