My Unforgettable Experience at Gangnam University

14 february, 2023

Hello! My name is Bayakhmet Lilia. I am a student of the Kazakh National University named after 51, I study at the Faculty of Oriental Studies with a degree in translation. I want to talk about my life in Korea. Especially about your Gangnam University! I would like to say, many thanks for the excellent teaching, learning and support that all teachers provided during the learning process. Thank you for the experience, knowledge and skills that you generously shared with us. I express my deep gratitude for the opportunity to gain new knowledge in such a short time. Classes here are held at the highest level, and the professors explain the topic very carefully. Of course, the system is slightly different from Kazakhstan. To give an example, in Kazakhstan, students are divided into courses (1-2-3-4), and in Korea as well, but it depends on the subject, to be more precise, you can listen to a lecture with different students from different courses. And in Kazakhstan, if you are a 3rd year student, you cannot listen to a lecture with students from the 1st year.

Gangnam University gave me the opportunity to feel like a real student. I admire the work of the organizers and teachers. I want to give an example, two months ago we had a festival. The organizers invited famous singers, actors, as well as students from the circles of our university. All students were talented and performed very beautifully. At that moment, I felt that I was living the best moments of my life. Thanks to Gangnam University for this opportunity. And we also signed up for the Buddy Mentoring program, in this program we were given one Korean student to help us with our studies, and also to advance the Korean language to another level. Thanks to this program, I was able to remove my barrier and my fear, as well as my mistakes in speaking. This student helped me with Korean and explained Korean culture to me and showed me new places and made me feel like a real Korean. We not only studied here, but also went on various excursions and each time we learned something new about Korea! We traveled with teachers and students from different countries to the city of Gongju. This city is located in the central part of Chungcheongnam-do province in South Korea. In the area, which is subordinate to the city administration, two mountains Geryongsan and Nonsan rise - famous mountain resort areas. In the old days, Unjin, the ancient capital of the Korean state of Baekje, was located on the site of Gongju. The city attracts the attention of tourists with historical monuments, among which the Buddhist heritage dating from the era of the Three Kingdoms is considered the most popular - the temples of Sinvoks, Magoksa (the oldest), Kaps, Tonkhaks, Synyosa. During the Baekje period, the Gongsan Fort was built. In 1972, the Gongju Museum began to function in the city, which contains historical artifacts related mainly to the Baekje period. I would like to add, since our university is closer to Seoul, we tried to travel to Seoul and visit the sights in our free time. Places we visited: Namsan, Gyeongbokgung, Hangang Lake, and we also went to Suwon city.

In such a short time, we were able to get used to and got used to life in Korea. I am proud of my current university, which gave me the opportunity to study in Korea, and I am also grateful to all the professors who teach me.
