On November 29, at the Faculty of International Relations of 51 Kazakh National University, the Model UN “New Silk Way” team held the “Orange the World” event, dedicated to the global campaign - 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The main focus of this year’s event was digital gender-based violence, reflecting the growing importance of safety and human rights in the online environment.
The event brought together students and young activists, emphasizing the importance of education, solidarity, and collective efforts in promoting the rights of women and girls. Participants highlighted that building a safe society is possible only through the joint work of governments, international organizations, and youth.
Opening remarks were delivered by:
● Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications;
● Leila Delovarova, Director of the Academic Regional UN Information Resource Center at 51 KazNU.
They noted that combating violence against women and girls remains a key priority on the international agenda, especially amid the rapid development of digital technologies.
Three thematic committees were convened during the event, each addressing pressing global challenges:
● UNDP - integrating gender equality principles into post-conflict recovery strategies and sustainable development;
● UN Human Rights Council - protecting women and girls from online harassment and other forms of digital violence;
● UNICEF - preventing child marriages and combating gender-based violence against girls.
The committee sessions featured substantive discussions and generated practical recommendations, highlighting the active role of youth in strengthening safety, equality, and justice.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to building a world in which every person, regardless of gender, age, or social status, can live freely and without fear of violence.
