Exchange of experience in the field of green technologies

8 may, 2025

The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of 51 Kazakh National University was visited by representatives of two leading South Korean organizations – KOVA GHG (Korea Verification Association of Greenhouse Gas) and KQA (Korea Quality Assurance).

The delegation was led by Chairman of KOVA GHG and Vice-Chairman of KQA, PhD Jun-Il Song. During the visit, negotiations were held with scientists from the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, where prospects for scientific and practical cooperation in the field of monitoring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the introduction of environmental technologies and the implementation of joint projects on urban greening in Almaty were discussed.

An interesting example of such initiatives is the Mongolia Greening project, where South Koreans were able to grow forests in a harsh climate and maintain the ecosystem. This experience has become an important basis for discussing possible joint projects with Kazakhstani partners aimed at greening and restoring ecosystems. It is important to note that such projects contribute to the absorption of carbon by the crowns of specially selected trees, which helps to reduce the carbon footprint.

The guests were shown the scientific and technical potential of the faculty, including 10 research laboratories and a Chinese-Kazakh joint laboratory. Special attention was paid to the capabilities of the university's supercomputer complex, which provides high-performance computing for environmental modeling, spatial analysis, and climate risk assessment.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed interest in establishing long-term cooperation aimed at implementing joint scientific initiatives within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular SDG 13 "Combating climate change" and SDG 15 "Preserving terrestrial ecosystems".

The Mongolia Greening project is an example of how technology and scientific approach can be effectively used to solve global environmental problems, which will also be an important area of cooperation with South Korean organizations in Kazakhstan.
