On April 30, 2025, the Faculty of Law at 51 Kazakh National University hosted a round table discussion on the topic “Participation of Kazakhstani Legal Scholars in the Great Patriotic War” as part of the special event plan “GREAT VICTORY: HONORING HEROISM, INSPIRING GENERATIONS,” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event was organized by the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Forensics of the Law Faculty of KazNU, in cooperation with the Criminological Association of Kazakhstan and the Human Rights Commission under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event brought together distinguished scholars and practitioners from Kazakhstan, including: Igor Rogov – Chairman of the Human Rights Commission under the President of Kazakhstan, Honorary President of the Criminological Association of Kazakhstan, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Law, Professor; Ömirbek Zhalairi – President of the Criminological Association of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Law, Professor; Talgat Sarsenbayev – Director of the School of Law and Public Administration of Narxoz University, Doctor of Law, Professor; Raushan Zhansaraeva – Vice-President of the Criminological Association of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Forensics of KazNU, Doctor of Law, Professor; Zhibek Dilbarkhanova – Deputy Head of the Almaty Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Doctor of Law, Professor; Gulmira Alibayeva – Executive Director of the Criminological Association of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Law, Professor; Kairat Aitkhozhin – Doctor of Law, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; Aigul Sabitova – Director of the “Sorbonne-Kazakhstan” Institute at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Deputy Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission under the President of Kazakhstan; Kuanysh Maulenov – prominent legal scholar, Doctor of Law, Honorary Professor of the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Professor at the International University of Information Technologies, laureate of the Chokan Valikhanov Prize, and others.

From Uzbekistan, the event featured Gulnoza Matkarimova – Doctor of Law, Professor at the International University of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Adaptation of Women Victims of Violence. Relatives of war veterans (such as Katira Rezakulovna Kasymkhanova and others) also participated.

The main purpose of the event was to preserve historical memory and highlight the contribution of Kazakhstani legal scholars who participated in the Great Patriotic War and, upon returning from the front, dedicated their lives to developing legal science, educating future generations of legal professionals, and building the legal system of independent Kazakhstan.

During the round table, scientific presentations were delivered, and archival materials and biographies of distinguished veteran lawyers were presented. Special attention was given to the significance of their heroism and scientific legacy in the context of contemporary legal education and patriotic upbringing of youth.

The event brought together representatives of the academic and professional legal community, faculty members, students, graduate students, human rights advocates, and civil society organizations.

Memory, science, and generational continuity — these are the core values reflected in the content of the round table.
