An Academic Council was held at 51 Kazakh National University, where issues of university development and the results of KazNU's research and innovation activities for 2024 were discussed.

The first issue on the agenda was the renaming of the Faculty of Information Technology. The report was made by the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Olzhas Turar, who presented the rationale for the need for this step. He noted that the name change to the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence is related to the updating of educational programs and the desire to comply with government policy and modern labor market requirements.

The council members discussed the proposed changes and expressed their opinions. In this regard, Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, noted that great hopes are pinned on the new faculty, and it will be necessary to develop new educational programs for bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies. Dean Olzhas Turar also proposed opening a new artificial intelligence department at all three levels of education.

Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board and Acting Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, and Almas Gauhar, Director of the Center for Technology Commercialization and Creative Industry, made a report on the results of KazNU's research and innovation activities in 2024. They provided data on the financing of scientific research, which amounted to 13,144.8 million tenge. To date, 368 projects are being implemented at the university. 31 contracts with legal entities and 8 contracts with government agencies are in the process of being concluded. 123 projects are under examination, and 19 projects are being reviewed. The sums of other promising projects that are being implemented at various faculties and scientific laboratories were announced. Achievements in commercialization and published articles in international scientific journals were also announced. Compared to 2022, in 2024, funding for new equipment was doubled, the amount spent by the university amounted to more than 10 billion tenge.

In this regard, KazNU Rector, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, stressed that with the new requirements of world science, scientists should reconsider their approaches to activities in order to accelerate work to improve the quality of scientific research and their commercialization, which will allow KazNU to get real results.

The speakers noted that the university actively participates in the implementation of scientific projects, cooperates with various organizations and implements innovative solutions, which contributes to increasing the university's competitiveness in the international arena.
