Victory Day is history and traditions

26 april, 2025

L.A. Tursalieva, Senior Lecturer, Department of Russian Philology and World Literature held a demonstration lesson with the  2nd year students of the RET major.  The lesson  topic was  "Victory Day is  history and traditions." May 9 Victory Day is  the history of the holiday from its inception to the present day. What do you remember about the first Victory Day, and what changes have occurred since then? What traditions of celebrating the Great Victory have been preserved to this day and what innovations have our generation brought to this holiday? After the victory of the Soviet Union in World War II, which for our people became the Great Patriotic War, May 9, Victory Day is the most desired and at the same time the most controversial holiday. As the song of the same name says, "this is a holiday that brings tears to our eyes." It could not be otherwise. In four years of war, the Soviet people lost more than 20 million people. And this is only confirmed data. Now many sources claim that the real number of those killed exceeds 40 million. It cannot be said that the war is a thing of the past. Until now, the bodies of soldiers killed on the battlefield, weapons, fragments of shells, and even unexploded mines are being found. The wounds inflicted on our country by the fascist invaders are still bleeding. Just as in those terrible years the whole country was mobilized to fight the enemy, now Victory Day is not celebrated as an ordinary May holiday. This holiday has great meaning for our people. This is a day of remembrance for the fallen. This is a tribute to the living heroes. This is the joy of the liberated people. This is to forever remind the youth of the price at which the Great Victory was achieved.
