Faculty members of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at 51 Kazakh National University took part in a study focused on the engagement of girls and women in science, innovation, and technological development in Kazakhstan. The initiative was launched by UN Women in Kazakhstan.

The main goal of the survey is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current level of women’s participation in the scientific and technological spheres in the country, as well as to identify the barriers that hinder a more active involvement of girls in technical disciplines, research projects, and innovative startups.

This study is of great importance for the further development of public policy in the field of science and innovation, with a focus on gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is also expected to provide recommendations on the development of infrastructure to support innovation-based entrepreneurship among women.

The study includes an online survey among representatives of the academic community and innovation structures. The participation of faculty members from the Faculty of Physics and Technology emphasizes KazNU’s commitment to the principles of gender equality and social inclusion.

The engagement of girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is directly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 – “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” Moreover, the results of this research will contribute to the achievement of SDG 4 – “Quality Education,” since the development of a nation’s scientific and innovative potential is impossible without the active participation of all social groups, including women.

Thus, the study conducted by UN Women plays a crucial role in promoting the principles of equality and sustainable development in Kazakhstan, creating new opportunities for talented girls and women in the scientific and technological sphere.
