On April 12, 2025, associate professors of the Department of cartography and Geoinformatics E. Mursalimova and Zh.Aukazhieva held a round table on the topic: "the role of the national infrastructure of spatial data in the digital transformation of the economy and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals".

The event was held within the framework of the work plan of the department aimed at implementing the goals of sustainable development in Kazakhstan, in particular "industrialization, innovation and infrastructure". The project "National Spatial Data Infrastructure" is considered as a key element in the development of the digital economy, expanding the range of geospatial services and introducing innovative technologies.

The national spatial data infrastructure ensures the availability of basic spatial data and their metadata in the fields of Geodetic and cartographic activities, information and communication technologies and information security.

GIS technologies, in turn, provide the collection, processing, analysis, modeling, storage, distribution and use of spatial information about the Earth, objects on the Earth's surface, natural, man-made and social processes. In the future, this will make it possible to effectively use spatial information to prevent and reduce man-made processes.

The Round Table was attended by guests of honor and speakers:

Nugmanova Zhuldyz-representative of Nur geoservice LLP (Atyrau);

Andrey Poplavsky - general director of Geomatix LLP (Almaty);

Kydyrbayev Daniyar-engineer-aerial photogeodesist (Aktobe);

Yerlan Ismailov-director of "Garantstroiks" LLP (Shymkent);

Aituganov Ramil-director of the company "GEOPROFI" (Almaty).

Doctoral and undergraduates of the department Turymtaev Zhanarys, Sabeshev Adil and Kutymova Nuray presented interesting reports on:

• "Development of an interactive dashboard for students and applicants on the ArcGIS platform";
• "Development of digital maps to improve the infrastructure of the agro-industrial complex;
• "Mapping of agricultural land of the Syrdarya District of Kyzylorda region using GIS technologies".

The guests of the event shared their experience in the implementation of aerial and space survey projects of cities and district centers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, talked about the use of spatial data platforms, information systems, geoports, Geoservices and their metadata by central and local government bodies.

At the end of the event, professor of the department E. Oryngozhin presented certificates to undergraduates and doctoral students of the department.
