The foundation of Kazakhstan’s school of colloid chemistry was laid in 1972 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, initiated by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR B.A. Birimzhanov, and supported by the university rector 袨.A. Zholdasbekov. Since then, the department’s founder, K.B. Mussabekov, has supervised the defense of 8 doctoral dissertations, over 40 candidate theses, and more than 8 PhDs. His students continue this academic legacy.
Since 2024, it has become a tradition at the department to hold the Republican Olympiad “Best Colloid Chemist” among senior students. The Olympiad includes both theoretical and practical rounds and lasts two days. Each year, more students join the competition to test their knowledge gained during the course.
For the 2025 Olympiad (April 10–11, 2025), students from other universities registered to participate, and students from S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU were selected through the preliminary round. All participants received certificates and incentive prizes.
Additionally, the top 5 students from the 3rd and 4th years were awarded 1st to 3rd places, receiving diplomas of degrees I–III and monetary prizes. Such Olympiads clearly help students deepen and consolidate their knowledge through competitive learning.
