"The Historical-Comparative Method and Folkloristics in the Concepts of A.N. Veselovsky, F.I. Buslaev, and V.M. Zhirmunsky"

On April 10, 2025, at the Faculty of Philology, under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of Kazakh Literature and Literary Theory, Doctor of Philology Gulzhan Zhambylovna Bolatova, the first-year Master's degree student majoring in "Kazakh Language and Literature," Oral Samat Nurzhanuly, conducted a demonstration seminar for the third-year students of "Literary Studies" major. The seminar was part of "Comparative Literary Studies and Folkloristics" course and was dedicated to the topic: "The Historical-Comparative Method and Folkloristics in the Concepts of A.N. Veselovsky, F.I. Buslaev, and V.M. Zhirmunsky". The demonstration seminar was organized within the framework of SDG 4 – Quality Education. The main objective of the seminar was to introduce students to the concepts of A.N. Veselovsky, F.I. Buslaev, and V.M. Zhirmunsky regarding the study of folklore through the historical-comparative method, and to teach them to view folklore as a historical and cultural phenomenon. During the seminar, methods such as brainstorming, group work, and Q&A sessions were used, along with feedback collected via the Padlet online board. As a result, students gained a deeper understanding of the development and significance of the historical-comparative method in comparative literary studies and actively participated in the session.
This seminar contributed to the development of students’ critical thinking skills, improved their ability to interpret literary texts, and broadened their academic perspectives on comparative literature.
