Students of 51 Kazakh National University won a prize at the international competition "MaxUP" Legathon-2025

Students from the Faculty of Law of 51 Kazakh National University participated in the “Maqsut Narikbayev Legathon-2025,” organized by Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) in honor of the 85th anniversary of Maqsut Sultanovich Narikbayev. The event was aimed at finding innovative solutions in the field of law. Passing the qualifying stage, the KazNU team took 1st place.
On April 18-19, 2025, Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) hosted a large-scale international event titled “The Law of the Future and the Role of Artificial Intelligence: The First International Legathon MaxUP 2025 at MNU.”
The unique feature of the new format of Legathon was its difference from traditional legal competitions, such as case championships or mock court trials. Legathon was organized as an intellectual laboratory. The event brought together nine top student teams from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.
The main theme of the International Legathon MaxUP 2025 was ethics and legal challenges in the era of artificial intelligence. Participants examined hypothetical but realistic future scenarios and proposed their solutions regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on human rights and legal dilemmas. The students not only demonstrated their knowledge but also contributed to shaping the future legal system.
In addition to solving cases, the teams developed scientific projects on topics related to the regulation of artificial intelligence and digital law, presenting them to a professional jury. The jury included Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Justice, Daniyel Vaisov, a judge of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, Elena Maksyuta, as well as partners of leading Kazakhstani and international law firms, judges, and lawyers. Practical workshops were also organized for the participants.
Initially, 30 teams participated in the Legathon, with the top 9 advancing to the finals. Representing 51 Kazakh National University were 3rd and 4th-year students of the Faculty of Law, Askar Abishev, Merey Bektursyn, and Dayana Taipova, as well as Dilnara Mutaliyeva from the Faculty of International Relations. The team’s scientific advisor was Doctor of Law, Professor, and Head of the Department of Customs, Financial, and Environmental Law, Guldan Kuanaliyeva. The team leader was Temir Toktybekov, and their curator-adviser was Saida Asanova.
Following two days of intense competition, the KazNU team secured an honorable 3rd place, earning a cash prize of 200,000 tenge.
