Enhancing Students' Knowledge Through the History of Inquisition

23 january, 2025

In accordance with the "Quality Education" goal outlined in the 4th section of the Sustainable Development Goals, on January 23, 2025, senior lecturers of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies at 51腦瞳 Kazakh National University, Dinara Utebaeva and Nursulu Altayeva, along with the 1st-year master's student in Religious Studies and intern Aruzhan Amanzholova, as well as 2nd-year students of Religious Studies, participated in the exhibition on "Religious Aesthetics" titled "The Mystery of the Inquisition: The Torments of the Middle Ages."

The exhibition was presented by the St. Petersburg Historical Museum and showed that the Middle Ages were not limited to famous figures such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Leonardo da Vinci, and Descartes. This period was also marked by the flames of the Inquisition, a time when the "purity of faith" was pursued through questioning and torture. The exhibition highlighted the lesser-known, yet significant part of this era. Over 40 exhibits, based on historical descriptions and ancient engravings, were displayed. These medieval tools help understand how terrifying and brutal the Inquisition was. The exhibition is historically accurate and educational.

The exhibition was organized in accordance with the "Quality Education" goal of sustainable development and contributed to enhancing students' historical knowledge, as well as fostering their skills in studying religious aesthetics and the history of medieval religions.
