Abai Zhambyluly began his legal career in July 1990 as a lawyer at the Legal Consultation Office of Kokshetau.

• June 1992 – June 1993: Judge of administrative and enforcement proceedings, as well as People's Judge of the Kokshetau City People's Court.

• June 1993 – October 1995: Deputy Chairman of the Kokshetau City People's Court.

• October 1995 – November 1996: Chairman of the Kokshetau City Court.

• From November 1996: Appointed by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan as Chairman of the Kokshetau City Court, a position he held until June 2002.
