KazNU Celebrates "Korisu" Day in the Spirit of National Traditions

15 march, 2025

On March 14, 2025, at 51 Kazakh National University, as part of the Nauryznama — a calendar of events dedicated to celebrating Nauryz, a special evening was held to mark the day of Amal — the "Korisu" celebration. The event was organized by the faculty members of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics and took place at the University’s Dormitory No. 6.

"Korisu" Day symbolizes renewal, forgiveness, and the strengthening of familial and friendly ties. On this day, it is customary to visit loved ones, embrace, and wish each other well-being and prosperity. At KazNU, this ancient tradition was passed on to the youth through an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and unity.

The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Doszhan Nursultan, and his deputies — Sahaeva Aigerim and Sabirova Roza. In his speech, the Dean emphasized:

"Today's event is not only a tribute to tradition but also an important part of educating the youth in the spirit of national values. We are proud to pass on to our students the depth and significance behind each celebration. 'Korisu' Day teaches us respect, unity, and mutual support, which are so important in today's world."

Students and faculty members congratulated each other, exchanged kind words, and reflected on the roots and meaning of this day in Kazakh culture. The evening concluded with a shared iftar (Auzashar), which enhanced the spirit of unity and spirituality.

This event is closely related to several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 4: Quality Education, as such events transmit knowledge about culture and traditions, which is an essential part of educating the youth. "Korisu" Day also aligns with SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, as it strengthens bonds and mutual understanding among students from different social and ethnic backgrounds, fostering an inclusive educational environment. Finally, through the reinforcement of harmony and mutual respect, the event contributes to achieving SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by creating an atmosphere of trust and social cohesion.

The organizers noted that such events contribute to the preservation and transmission of the spiritual and cultural values of the Kazakh people, promote respect for traditions, and strengthen mutual understanding within the student community.
