A demo seminar on the topic: “Social media: changing our lives”

On April 9, 2025, in Room 301 at the Faculty of Philology, the 2nd-year students of "Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages" major held a demo seminar on the topic: “Social media: changing our lives”. The demo lesson focused on exploring the impact of social media on modern life. It began with a warm-up activity where students discussed their social media habits and took a quick survey to activate their prior knowledge. This helped generate an interest and encouraged personal connection to the topic. Core vocabulary from “Social media destroying how society works” article was introduced to prepare the students for reading. After reading, the students practiced paraphrasing key sentences to enhance comprehension. “The Disconnect” shorrt video was shown to illustrate the topic and sparked discussion. The students analyzed pictures showing common social media behaviors and reflected on how these relate to their own experiences. A SWOT analysis in groups allowed the learners to critically evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of social media. Finally, the students shared feedback via Socrative, reflecting on what they learned and how their views might have changed. The lesson was interactive, reflective, and thought-provoking.
