Within the framework of SDG-4 "Quality Education," from February 25 to 26, 2025, at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of 51 Kazakh National University, as part of their pedagogical practice, first-year master's students of the educational programs 7M07101 – Petrochemistry, 7M07106 – Chemical Technology of Organic Substances, and 7M05301 – Chemistry: Ilyas Sultan Gylimbekuly, Li Yi, Dekteryuk Yulia Andreevna, Zhalgasbek Nurmaye, Zholdasbayev Almat Kairatuly, and Kaidarbekova Dilnaz Berdybekkyzy (Deputy Dean for Scientific and Innovative Work and International Relations, Acting Professor Dyusebayeva M.A.; Deputy Head of the Department for Educational and Social Work, PhD in Chemistry, Senior Lecturer Litvinenko Yu.A.; Supervisor of Pedagogical Practice, PhD in Chemistry, Senior Lecturer Umbetova A.K.; Curator-Advisor, PhD, Acting Professor Kudaibergenova B.M.) organized the "Best Organic Chemist 2025" Olympiad. This event was conducted by the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Organic Substances, Natural Compounds, and Polymers of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The Olympiad aimed to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
Students from KazNU, Almaty Technological University, and Satbayev University participated in the competition.
The Olympiad consisted of two rounds. In the first, theoretical round, participants solved five tasks covering key areas of organic chemistry: natural compound chemistry, physicochemical analysis methods, and classical sections of organic chemistry. Based on the results of the first stage, 10 students with the highest scores were selected.
The second round was practical in nature. Contestants conducted chemical experiments to identify two unknown organic compounds and then analyzed their structures using infrared spectroscopy. This stage allowed participants to demonstrate not only theoretical knowledge but also practical laboratory skills.
The award ceremony took place on February 26. Winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas and commemorative prizes. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants, noting the high level of student preparation and their commitment to scientific achievements. The "Best Organic Chemist" Olympiad once again confirmed its significance as an important platform for knowledge and experience exchange among future specialists in the field of organic chemistry.
Winners:
1st place – Ilyas Amirali
2nd place – Pogorov Fedor
3rd place – Sosin Vadim
3rd place – Simonov Mikhail
This Olympiad contributes to the development of students' professional competencies, stimulates scientific research in the field of organic chemistry, and strengthens educational ties between universities.
The sponsor of the "Best Organic Chemist 2025" Olympiad was the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Organic Substances, Natural Compounds, and Polymers, represented by the Head of the Department, PhD in Chemistry, Associate Professor Irmukhametov G.S.
