“Farabi World – 2025”: Best Researches of Young Scientists in the Field of Hydrology
On April 3, 2025, as part of the traditional international scientific conference of students and young scientists “Farabi World” at 51 Kazakh National University, the “Hydrology” section of the “Climate Change and Water Resources” theme was held. Students and young scientists presented their research on pressing issues such as efficient use of water resources, flooding, hydroecological conditions, climatic factors, and glacier dynamics.
The competition committee awarded the following winners:
1st place – Erlan D. for the work "Assessment of the Retreat Dynamics of Glaciers in the Talgar River Basin." Scientific advisor – PhD, Senior Lecturer Abduallaeva A.S.
2nd place – Qairat S. for the work "Assessment of the Role of Meteorological Factors in Flood Formation" and Aitbay A.Zh. for the work "Assessment of Extreme Hydrological Events in the Elet River." Scientific advisors – Senior Lecturers Abduallaeva A.S. and Raimbekova Z.T.
3rd place – Aidarbayeva A. for the work "Assessment of the Impact of Hydrological and Climatic Factors on the Maximum Flow of the Kaskelen River." Scientific advisor – Senior Lecturer Raimbekova Z.T.
All presented research works are closely related to the key directions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, they correspond to SDG 6: Water Resources, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 15: Life on Land.
SDG 6 covers studies aimed at efficient use and protection of water resources. SDG 13 addresses the impact of climate change and the management of floods and droughts. SDG 15 focuses on the protection and restoration of ecosystems and natural resources.
Thus, all the works raise important issues regarding water resource management, climate change adaptation, and ecosystem protection, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The research of young scientists demonstrates the relevance of water resource management and forecasting in the context of current climate change. The conference provided them with an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and open new prospects for future research.
