International Forum "Universities, Business and Climate Change. SCO Territory" was held in Moscow, Bishkek and Almaty
On April 3, 2025, the international forum "Universities, Business and Climate Change in the SCO Territory" was held simultaneously in three countries: Russia (Moscow), Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek) and Kazakhstan (Almaty) on the basis of the 51 Kazakh National University.
The forum was organized by 51 Kazakh National University, ANO Academy 2030 and the Kazakhstan Association of Nature Users for Sustainable Development (BCSD Kazakhstan). The main theme of the event was the interaction of universities, businesses and government agencies in addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable development. In Almaty, the forum was held at the 51 Library, where leading scientists, business representatives and environmentalists gathered. Altai Gabdrakhmanovich Kazmagambetov, Member of the Board and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of 51 Kazakh National University, addressed the participants of the forum with a welcoming speech.
The moderator of the session "(Uncertainty of sustainable development" was Galina Artyukhina, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Association of Nature Users for Sustainable Development (BCSD Kazakhstan). The global Sustainable Development Agenda and the ESG form long-term guidelines for business and the economy. However, the vector of these changes is influenced by many factors, from geopolitics and macroeconomics to technological breakthroughs and public demand. Kazakhstan, as part of the global economy, is adapting its strategy to new challenges.
During the session, the experts discussed: current and transforming trends in ESG and climate policy; the impact of uncertainty in international and national regulatory approaches on business strategies; risks and opportunities for Kazakhstani companies in the next 5-10 years.
The speakers of the session were: Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology Cherednichenko Vladimir Sergeevich; Alexander Bely, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Council for Green Construction – KazGBC. The online speakers were: Alexander Cherednichenko, National Expert of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at KazNU; Ivan Barsola, Executive Director of the Directorate for ESG, BEAC.
The discussions were also attended by: Zhunusbekova Nazim Maratovna, Deputy Director of the Institute of Project Management at Satbayev University, PhD, Associate Professor; Aliya Aktymbaeva, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences at 51 Kazakh National University; Nysanbayeva Aiman Sagynbaevna, Head of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology; Salnikov Vitaly Grigorievich, Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology; Bazarbayeva Tursynkul Amankeldievna, Head of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable development.
The Forum has become a significant platform for the exchange of experience and the development of new solutions in the field of sustainable development. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all the participants and stressed the importance of such events for international cooperation and the future of environmentally responsible business.
