Global sky laboratory increases the scientific potential of the University

One of the laboratories created as part of the 90th anniversary of 51 kaznu is the global Sky innovative laboratory for Atmospheric Research. This laboratory was created with the aim of developing and implementing advanced technologies and methods for a deeper understanding of atmospheric processes, forecasting the consequences of weather and climate changes, as well as creating innovative solutions in the field of sustainability and quality management of atmospheric air.
According to Doctor of geographical sciences, professor, project manager Vitaly Salnikov, the laboratory's activities are based on several areas that are very important for the country's economy:
1.study of atmospheric hazards caused by global and regional climate changes, such as droughts and gusts, thaws and severe frosts, and create a system to warn them in advance.
2.study of the dynamics of the available potential of alternative energy sources in the context of reducing the carbon footprint on the way to achieving carbon neutrality.
3.research and testing of new methods of active influence on atmospheric processes.
4.study of modern problems of air pollution in order to create a system for managing its quality.
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OF THE LABORATORY
Technological leadership. The laboratory has access to modern technologies for collecting and analyzing specialized data. An example of this is a meteorological temperature profiler. In particular, a remote sensing device that measures radiation in the boundary layer of the atmosphere at an altitude of 0 to 1000 meters, digital chemical-atmospheric models (WRF-Chem – Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model coupled with Chemistry), etc.
Expertise and experience. The team of the laboratory attracted highly qualified specialists with many years of experience in the field of Atmospheric Research. Professionals provide a high level of expertise and research.
Innovative methods and approaches. We can say that the laboratory has the following potential. Uses internet technology (IoT-Internet of things) to collect data on weather and atmospheric parameters; uses methods for satellite monitoring and remote sensing; simulates and simulates atmospheric processes; develops new methods and approaches to the study of the atmosphere, such as hybridization of mathematical methods using artificial intelligence, and has the possibility of neural networks.
Interdisciplinary approach. It is noteworthy that the laboratory brings together specialists in various fields of science, such as meteorology, hydrology, Geography, Geoinformatics, ecology, mathematics, artificial intelligence, Big data, computer modeling, etc., which contribute to a comprehensive study of atmospheric processes and their interaction with the environment.
Cooperation and partnership. The laboratory actively cooperates with research institutes, universities, government organizations and private companies at the national and international level. According to the project manager Vitaly Salnikov, such cooperation contributes to the effective exchange of knowledge, experience and resources.
The global Sky Laboratory at 51 kaznu is an important component of academic and scientific activities that contribute to the development of scientific potential, attracting talented specialists and strengthening the University's position as a leader in the field of atmospheric sciences.
Demand for results. The results of the innovative laboratory of Atmospheric Research are of great importance to its users on a large scale. Including:
1. state bodies and services:
Kazhydromet: it will be a valuable source for improving weather forecasts, early warning of natural disasters and monitoring of air quality.
Akimats at all levels, as well as ministries and departments responsible for the management of ecology, agriculture, energy, transport and water resources, provide assistance in making informed decisions. Influential in optimizing resource use and reducing the risks associated with weather and climate.
Emergency services: respond effectively to natural disasters and mitigate their consequences.
2. private sector:
Subsurface users: use to reduce the risks of exceeding the limits of atmospheric air and environmental pollution in general.
Agricultural enterprises: contribute to the optimization of agricultural production, increase productivity and reduce weather-related risks.
Energy companies: predict energy demand, optimize the operation of power plants and develop renewable energy sources.
Insurance companies: assess the risks associated with weather and climate and develop insurance products.
Transport companies: optimize routes, reduce the risk of delays and increase Transportation Safety.
Travel companies: predict the weather and attract tourists.
3. scientific community:
Universities and research institutes: develop new technologies and models for further additional research in atmospheric science.
International organizations: monitor the climate, assess the risks of climate change, and develop adaptation and mitigation measures.
4.efficiency to the population: receives information about the weather, air quality and risks of natural disasters.
5.communication with the media: disseminates information to the public about the weather, climate and environment.
We also note that Atmospheric Research is closely integrated with the Sustainable Development Goals. Among them, SDGs-2 – elimination of hunger, ensuring food security, SDGs-3-good health and well – being, SDGs-4 – Quality Education, SDGs-7 – affordable and clean energy, SDGs-9 – Industry, Innovation and infrastructure, SDGs-11 – Sustainable Cities and towns, SDGs-13 – combating climate change, SDGs-15 – preserving terrestrial ecosystems, SDGs-17 – working closely in the direction of partnership for Sustainable Development.
