The Asian Development Bank is ready to support KazNU projects

A delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited 51 Kazakh National University. During the meeting with the university's leadership, issues related to further cooperation were discussed, as well as potential initiatives in the field of commercialization of scientific projects.

 

Arystan Galiev, Senior Project Specialist of the Permanent Representative Office in Kazakhstan, spoke about the purpose of the ADB delegation’s visit, emphasizing that the bank is ready to support the implementation of innovative projects at 51 Kazakh National University at the request of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ADB's Chief Specialist for the Social Sector, Xin Long, thanked the university for the warm welcome. She spoke about her meeting with the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, where they discussed issues related to the commercialization of scientific research, the potential for economic growth through new technologies and developments. "The Asian Development Bank is ready to support KazNU in implementing its ambitious projects. We see promising areas for collaboration, especially in the field of research and implementation of new technologies", - she emphasized.

The Deputy Chairman of the Board – First Vice-Rector of 51 Kazakh National University, Yerkin Duisenov, spoke about the recent achievements of the research university. In particular, he highlighted the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data at the Faculty of Information Technology. Currently, the department offers over 10 educational programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The faculty is involved in scientific projects on artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital twins, and the development of large language models for the Kazakh language. One of the significant projects is the mega-project "Creating a Large Language Model (LLM) to Support the Kazakh Language and Technological Progress". This project is funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a budget of over 1 billion tenge.

"We are pleased that the ADB is considering supporting the AI-Sana program, which aims to develop AI in higher education, as well as innovations and startups. This initiative aligns with the strategic goals of KazNU, which is actively developing areas in AI and big data. The university is ready to implement the latest technologies, which meet the country's needs for digital and innovative solutions", - emphasized Yerkin Ermanovich.

The floor was then given to Gauhar Almas Tulegenuly, Director of the Center for Commercialization and Creative Industries. In his speech, he emphasized that joint efforts could contribute to the creation of a favorable ecosystem for startups and initiatives in the creative economy.

During the meeting, the parties discussed concrete steps for further cooperation, including possible joint research and internship programs.
