Winter School with Sangmyung University Students
On January 11, 2025, a meaningful friendly exchange meeting between Sangmyung University students(Korea) was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of 51福利 Kazakh National University, led by Professors Kim Sangheon and Choi Heesoo and the Department of the Far East (Korean Studies). The event was organized at the level of a winter school, and was attended by 12 students (3 professors, 1 doctoral student, 8 students) of Sangmyung University and 15 students of the Department of the Far East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Professor Kim Sangheon is currently an overseas supervisor for doctoral students of the Department of the Far East (Khamitova Nazerke and Ilyas Diana). Professor Choi Heesoo is also an overseas supervisor of one doctoral student, Askarova Gulnara. Professor Kim Sangheon visits the Faculty of Oriental Studies every year, and through this, the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides are strengthened.
The exchange meeting between the students was held in a friendly atmosphere. The korean side prepared delicious pizza for lunch, and while sharing pizza, the students from both sides had a conversation about the education systems and university life in Kazakhstan and Korea. After lunch, the students were divided into groups and had time to chat during a tour of Almaty. It was a meaningful time for the korean students who visited Kazakhstan for the first time, and it strengthened the friendship between the two sides.
Professors Kim Sangheon and Choi Heesoo pay great attention to the Department of the Far East. They visit the Faculty of Oriental Studies every year and during their visit, they conduct a historical tour with the students or advise doctoral students. We hope for further exchanges and cooperation between Kazakh National University and Sangmyung University in the future too.
