Migration Issues in Kazakhstan

26 november, 2024

On November 26, 2024,  the 4th-year students majoring in  "6B02303 – Foreign Philology" together  with the curator Bekturova E.K., organized an event on the tooic:  "Migration Issues in Kazakhstan" in Dormitory No.17.
Every individual should play an essential role in achieving migration-related goals, including improving the well-being of migrants and the communities they live in, for the benefit of society as a whole. Managing migration is becoming a critical factor for the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On December 18, 1990, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. Later, on December 4, 2000, the General Assembly established International Migrants Day, observed annually on December 18. This decision was made in response to the significant increase in the global migrant population in recent years and the large-scale challenges migration has presented.
The primary reasons for migration include the pursuit of a better quality of life, socio-economic factors, political beliefs, war, job seeking, changes in lifestyle, ecological issues, and educational opportunities. Consequently, social sciences have introduced terms such as ethnic migration, ecological migration, labor migration, educational migration, and tourism migration.
During the event, participants discussed issues related to the legal regulation of basic education for migrant children, the experience of migrant children receiving education in host countries, and support for educating migrant children in their native languages.

Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies, E.K. Bekturova
