On 10/26/2024, students and doctoral students of the specialty "Fisheries" of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources took an active part in the public action "Give life to fish", held within the framework of SDG-15 jointly with Balyq mektep LLP at the Kapshagai reservoir.
Public and environmental organizations, employees of LLP NPTS fisheries, as well as ordinary citizens also participated in the action. The main idea of the campaign is to replenish the fish stocks of the Kapshagai reservoir.
The topic covers issues of conservation and sustainable use of fish resources, which is especially relevant today in the context of global environmental changes. This initiative is aimed at improving the habitat of fish and restoring their populations in natural reservoirs. The main idea is to promote the natural reproduction of fish and responsible attitude to aquatic ecosystems.
In the modern world, fish resources are under threat due to overfishing, water pollution and climate change. An integrated approach is needed to preserve ecosystems: improving the ecology of reservoirs, observing fishing quotas, restoring spawning grounds and breeding fish in artificial conditions with subsequent release into the natural environment.
Special attention is paid to replenishing populations of rare and endangered fish species, such as sturgeon, which are of significant economic and environmental importance. By releasing fry into the natural environment, we help restore their numbers and maintain balance in the aquatic ecosystem.
The "Give life to fish" campaign was organized jointly with teachers of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources Kegenova G.B., 2nd year doctoral students Kegenov E.B., graduate of the Department, General Director of TMT Group LLP Tursinali Marlen and students of the 1-2 year bachelor's degree in Fisheries. It is important to realize that everyone can contribute, whether it is compliance with fishing rules, participation in clean-up activities in reservoirs or commitment to responsible consumption of fish products.
