Forum of Young Sociologists: Identity and Quality Education as Key Factors in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

On October 22, 2024, as part of the VIII Congress of Sociologists of Kazakhstan, the Forum of Young Sociologists of Kazakhstan took place at the Department of Sociology and Social Work of 51 Kazakh National University. The central theme of the forum was the issues of identity and quality education, discussed in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event brought together young researchers and experts in the field of sociology, providing a unique platform for the exchange of experience and the discussion of pressing social issues.
The forum was officially opened by Yuliya Vladimirovna Kuchinskaya, Member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, and Executive Director of the Association of Sociologists of Kazakhstan (ASK) from 2014 to 2017. In her speech, Yuliya Vladimirovna emphasized the issues surrounding the modern identity of Kazakhstani youth. She highlighted that the process of identity formation in the context of globalization is complex and multilayered. In addition, other important social issues were raised, including the role of digital technologies in contemporary realities.
The next speaker was Adil Radionov, PhD, representing the Kazakhstan Sociology Lab. His presentation focused on a practical topic – "How to Write an Article for Scopus." Adil Radionov shared useful recommendations with forum participants on writing scientific articles for international journals, highlighting the requirements for Scopus publications and common mistakes that authors should avoid.
The third speaker was Aliya Sarsekeeva, Head of the School of Sociologists at Kazakhstan Sociology Lab, with the presentation "Digital Tools for Sociologists: Introduction to Data Analysis in R and Power BI." In her presentation, Aliya Sarsekeeva explained in detail the digital tools that can significantly simplify and speed up the process of sociological data processing. The introduction to programs like R and Power BI allowed forum participants to familiarize themselves with the key features of modern tools for analyzing large datasets.
In addition, within the framework of the Forum, senior researcher of the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies, PhD candidate in specialty “Sociology” Tlenchiyeva Shyryn Muratkyzy presented the results of the research conducted within the framework of the project “Comparative analysis of factors affecting the happiness of the population of Kazakhstan in the context of regions”, funded by the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Forum of Young Sociologists became an important platform for discussing relevant issues related to youth identity, quality education, and the use of digital technologies in sociological research.
