3 december, 2025

Aida Kalieva is a 2nd year doctoral student of the educational program "Tourism and hospitality" at the Faculty of geography and nature management.

Today, an active, inquisitive young man is conducting research in the direction of sustainable development in the field of Tourism and hospitality. He is writing a dissertation on the topic: "assessing the impact of green initiatives in the hotel industry on Sustainable Development Goals". This research work of the young scientist is devoted to identifying the socio-economic impact of the introduction of environmental innovations (for example: energy saving, waste reduction, efficient use of Water Resources) in the hotel sector.

The head of Aida Kalieva is candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Aliya Aktymbaeva. According to Aida Kalieva, under the scientific guidance of Aliya Sagyndykzy, a deeper study of the methodology for assessing environmental management and "green" technologies in tourism is underway. Moreover, several articles of the doctoral student have been published in international publications included in the Scopus database. In this regard, the newspaper" Qazaq universiteti " attracted young scientist Aida Kalieva to the conversation and asked several questions.

Aida, what articles have appeared in international publications? Publications included in the Scopus database are highly demanding, How do you prepare for writing an article?

In recent years, my scientific articles have been published in several prestigious international publications. In particular, I have works published in magazines such as GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites, Sustainability (Switzerland) and Revista Iberoamericana de Viticultura, Agroindustria y Ruralidad. For example, in the article "Balancing Nature and Visitors for Sustainable Development: Assessing the Tourism Carrying Capacities of Katon-Karagay National Park, Kazakhstan", published in the journal Sustainability (Switzerland), a methodology for assessing the level of environmental load of National Parks was considered.

Writing articles for international journals is a complex and labor – intensive process. Each article consists of several stages: drawing up a theoretical justification, clarifying the methodology, summarizing the data, comparing the results and finally writing in English in a scientific style. Each Journal has its own format, structure and ethical requirements, so it will be necessary to revise the work several times and make adjustments.

However, this process has its own great benefit – it enhances the scientific culture of the researcher, develops critical thinking and allows him to defend his work in front of an international audience.

It is difficult to write and publish scientific articles in international journals, but it is primarily a sign of striving for quality. I believe that each published work is not only an individual achievement, but also a contribution to increasing the prestige of Kazakhstan's Science in the world scientific space.

Some scientists say that" it is advisable to remove the requirement to publish articles for international publications." What is your opinion on this issue?

- Indeed, this issue is very relevant today. In my opinion, it is wrong to exclude the requirement for international publications to publish a scientific research work, on the contrary, it is necessary to improve its qualitative dimension. Because publications at the international level are the professional development of a scientist and the reflection of the country's Science in the international arena.

Of course, it is not easy to publish an article for the journals Scopus or Web of Science. But this requirement teaches the researcher systematic thinking, comparative analysis, accuracy and scientific culture. This is a guarantee of order and quality in science.

Aida, will you choose the path of science yourself, or do you intend to switch to another field?

- Of course, the path of science is not an easy path, it takes a lot of time and effort to study your chosen topic. However, science gives a person spiritual satisfaction, gives you confidence in your work, and most importantly – opens up the opportunity to make a real contribution to the development of the country. Therefore, my goal is to stay in the field of science, serve the future of the tourism and hospitality industry and contribute to increasing the international prestige of Kazakhstan's science.

Do you think that today's young people can do science and live well?

- Yes, you can live well by taking the path of science. I say it with confidence. Let him have no doubts. Modern youth can live well even by doing science. Today's science is not limited to theory, innovative projects, startups, international research grants, academic mobile programs – all this makes science a practical field. The main thing is perseverance and professional interest. Having these two qualities in a person, you can achieve great success in science. Young scientists are fluent in new technologies, know the language, and can work with world-class platforms. Consequently, they have the ability to commercialize their research, adapt it to the demands of society.

- Thank you for the conversation.
